Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the product made of?

The product is mainly made of polyolefin. (Polyolefin is the material that regular plastic bags are made from.) When Totally Degradable Plastic Additives is added to it, it becomes new material that breaks down when exposed to ultraviolet rays, heat, or physical stress until, finally, it decomposes into water, carbon dioxide, and biomass.

2. What litre capacity is each balloon and what pressure should the balloons be filled to?

A balloon's capacity is about 20 litre helium. The balloons should be filled to at about pressure 1 (using a pressure regulator).

3. Over what time does it degrade?

It depends on situations, but if the balloons falls on the ocean where exposed to severe ultraviolet rays, rain, and waves, it breaks down in about 10 days. If the balloons are left at a normal environment, it takes about 3 months. Therefore, it depends on the situation.

4. What kind of gas is used in the Bio Dove balloons?

Bio dvballoons are meant to be used with helium gas only. Helium is safe because it is noncombustible, tasteless, odorless, and nontoxic. Anyone could use it without any special experience.

5. Do Bio Doves burst when inflating with helium gas?

When inflating a balloon, the balloon will take on its shape and begin to slowly float. That signals that there is a sufficient amount of helium in the balloon. If too much helium is inserted into the balloon, part of the balloon will abnormally expand and a short puffing sound will be heard meaning that the balloon has been ruptured. Unlike with conventional rubber balloons, a pop sound will not be heard. Ruptured balloons will not float, so please dispose of them properly.

6. If I want to send up a large amount of balloons at once, what is the best way to do this?

We recommend keeping each balloon tied to a long rope until its release. Bio Dove balloons are equipped with a paper string that can be tied to the rope. When the time comes for releasing the balloons, the fastest way is to cut the paper strings from the rope using scissors.

7. How long do Bio Doves float for?

After being inflated with helium, the balloons are known to float for more than 20 hours. Of course, the amount of time an inflated balloon on the rope has been grounded for should also be considered.

8. How far do Bio Doves travel for?

Although varying weather conditions are a factor, we have found that are balloons have traveled anywhere from 500 km (310.69 miles) to as far as 2000 km (1242.74 miles). One balloon found its way from Japan all the way to Los Angeles!
